Where we started
David Kimball embarked on his real estate career in 1972, initially investing in apartments and land with development potential. Among his early achievements was securing an option on the Old Miles Hotel, which he and Victor Kimball later transformed into the historic Peery Hotel. In 1974, David founded Proctor & Kimball, which he later restructured into Kimball Investment Company in 1976 after buying out Proctor. Victor Kimball joined the company in 1977.
David and Victor’s extensive experience in commercial real estate allowed them to excel in various areas, including land acquisitions, lease buy-outs, land assemblage, condominium conversions, and the development and management of hotels, shopping centers, industrial parks, office buildings, residential subdivisions, and apartments. Their diverse projects span across Utah, Nevada, Texas, Idaho, Montana, and California.
The Kimballs are also well-regarded for their expertise in historic property renovation. In 1985, they restored the dilapidated Peery Hotel into a prestigious boutique property, earning praise from the Salt Lake City Arts Council and being named “Most Miraculous Conversion” by Utah Holiday Magazine. They also renovated and managed the historic Judge Building, which remains a Class A office building in downtown Salt Lake City.
Additionally, the Kimballs have developed and operated various hotel franchises in Utah, including Marriott, Hilton, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Quality Inn, Choice, Travelodge, and Best Western, as well as independent hotels in locations such as Zion National Park, Ojai, Arizona, Utah, and a resort beach property in Oceanside, CA.
Where we are going
After 45 years of successful partnership, David and Victor decided to part ways. David, together with his son-in-law Jayd Petersen and Kelly Poppleton—who had been with Kimball Investment Company for 20 years—founded Kimball Development and Management (KDM), with Kelly serving as Controller. KDM is actively managing several mixed-use development projects and offering property management and accounting services to current and former clients, including Gardner Company, DonorConnect, and Intermountain Healthcare. Additionally, KDM has welcomed Michele Briscoe as Office Manager.
